Provisional Psychologist Training Program

Welcome to Boost!

We’re thrilled to hear that you’re considering joining our team. We’re a busy clinic of registered psychologists in Edmonton and are accepting applications for our provisional psychologist training program.

Our clinic is located in south Edmonton where we offer in-person and online psychological services.

We offer two streams for the program, internal and external supervision. Our internal stream is for provisional psychologists who hold a contract position at Boost Psychology. Our external program is for provisional psychologists who work outside of Boost and require an external supervisor.

Supervisor Profiles

Kirsten Klemm, R. Psych

My philosophy of supervision is centered on nurturing collaborative and supportive relationships. Together, we will engage in reflective practice, fostering self-awareness and critical thinking in clinical decision-making. This involves discussing challenging cases, ethical dilemmas, and personal biases to enhance professional development and ethical decision-making skills. As your supervisor, I aim to provide support that goes beyond merely imparting clinical knowledge, aiming to nurture your confidence, professional identity, and professional well-being.

I am drawn to cognitive behavioral principles, recognizing thoughts that influence our emotions and behaviors. Exploring cognitive behavioral therapy, I appreciated its practical approach and emphasis on empowering individuals to address maladaptive thought patterns, facilitating personal growth. This early interest shaped my therapeutic philosophy and continues to inform my practice. Throughout my career, I have expanded my expertise to include prolonged exposure (PE) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) for PTSD treatment. I particularly enjoy working with clients facing PTSD, burnout, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and life transitions.

Chelsey Wakefield, R. Psych

I simply love getting to know people, whether it be working with clients who are looking to grow as individuals, or it be helping budding psychologists develop their clinical skills. I love being a part of the process of self-discovery. I was first introduced to supervision 7 years ago, as a team lead, overseeing interns and supporting their development. I quickly recognized how much I love talking about all things psychology, exploring various case conceptualizations, and supporting both the client and evolving psychologist to develop and reach their goals.

My approach to supervision is two-fold. I believe that most of us, given a safe space and dedicated time, can identify what we most need. I endeavor to create a space and comfortable space where we can talk about the highs and lows of your development. As a practicing psychologist, I believe that ongoing self-reflection and self-efficacy are paramount. Supporting you to develop and engage in these practices, through our time together, not only lays the foundation for your future work, but instills habits and confidence in yourself for future autonomous practice. At the same time, I believe that sometimes we do not know what we do not know and a seasoned guide is needed. While I expect my interns and provisionals to actively engage in supervision and openness to constructive feedback, I also provide a framework and topics of discussion and importance as we go.

With the infusion of Solution-Focused and Client-Centered techniques, you will always have the opportunity to share, develop, and work through your evolving case conceptualizations, ethical dilemmas, and identified areas of growth. Through this process, you will also get to discover and develop your clinical self and who you want to be in your practice.

I have always cherished the designation of Registered Psychologist and have great respect for my field. I want to support like-minded individuals who want to support clients where they are at, with tailored interventions, and who want to grow and learn.

General Overview of Internal Provisional Program

 0 – 100 days: Introduction plan

You have an opportunity to learn how to be a great team member.

In the first 100 days, you’ll get familiar with all things Boost, start to build your caseload, and start formal supervision with your supervisor. Goals will be set for your licensing exams and any training.

12 months: Formal Supervision

Optimize your skills in what you do and say to provide the best client experiences.

Together with you, we’ll create a plan to get you where you clinically want to be. We can support you with building a caseload, attracting your ideal clients and adjusting to private practice.

This is the time to get settled at Boost, try different things and see what you like with the support of your supervisor. This is the period where your provisional requirements should be wrapping up and you will be ready for full licensing.

 2-3 years: Your personal brand

We’ll work with you to develop your personal brand and reputation as being the best at what you do as a registered psychologist. We’ll support you to build your personal brand and get you known for doing what you love.

At this point, you’ll be in your groove and things will be flowing.

Mentorship
We are here to provide formal and evaluative supervision to help you grow and improve how you practice.

A kindness-focused culture
Many businesses talk about being customer-focused (or client-focused in our industry!), but at Boost we are kindness-focused. We believe in looking after each other. We only hire the best so we know our clients will always be looked after.
Accountability
You can expect us to hold you to a higher standard than you hold yourself. We won’t let you off, and we won’t let you down. Expect us to give you individual mentoring so you can grow and improve as a practitioner in all areas of your role.
